Cascina Ca' Rossa Barbera d'Alba Ansem 2023
Cascina Ca' Rossa is a Ferrio family estate in Canale, the heart of the Roero, farmed organically since 2012. "Ansem" means "together" in Piedmontese dialect — a nod to Angelo Ferrio and his son Stefano who run the place together — and this is their single-vineyard Barbera d'Alba from sandy, calcareous soils at 200–250 meters with south and southwest exposures. Aged entirely in stainless steel and then bottle, it shows Barbera at its most vibrant and unadorned: deep ruby with purple flashes, full of black cherry, blackberry, and violet, with the grape's signature snap of acidity and a medium-bodied, savory finish. Built for the table.
