One of Bolgheri's historic estates, in the shadow of more famous neighbors but with a deeper history than most. The Bolgheri Castle has belonged to the Gherardesca counts since the 13th century, and since the mid-1990s Federico Zileri Dal Verme has been crafting wines that aim for the appellation's hallmark elegance and longevity. The Superiore Rosso is the flagship: a Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot from estate vineyards bordering some of Italy's most storied properties. The 2021 is dark and inviting, with ripe plum, cherry, espresso, and cocoa, and a long balsamic-spice finish. Built to age but already singing.
