Chateau Cantemerle Haut-Medoc Les Allees de Cantemerle 2016
The second wine of Château Cantemerle — the traditionalist Fifth Growth on the Margaux border whose grand vin is one of the only Grand Cru Classés that can honestly be called old-school Bordeaux. Les Allées is drawn mostly from the younger vines, vinified with the same hands-off methods the estate has always used (concrete vats, no new-oak overload), and it shows the same gravelly Haut-Médoc character as the grand vin in a more open, earlier-drinking frame. The 2016 vintage, classical and structured, gives it real spine. A genuinely correct claret at an honest price — the kind of bottle a Bordeaux drinker can pour midweek without thinking twice.
