Chateau Cap de Faugeres Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux 2003
A fully mature Bordeaux from the famously hot 2003 vintage, now showing all the upside and none of the awkwardness that vintage was once known for. Cap de Faugères sits in Castillon, just east of Saint-Émilion, on the same clay-limestone slope — It was made by the Guisez family, who owned the estate until 2005 before Silvio Denz acquired it (with Stephan von Neipperg's advice on the purchase). The 2003 was an opulent, dark, sumptuous wine on release, and time has done what time does: the fruit has turned savory and pruney, the tannins have softened, and the whole thing now drinks like a sleeper-vintage Right Bank classic. Drink up.
