Chateau La Lagune Haut-Medoc 2014

La Lagune is the southernmost classified growth of the Medoc, sitting just north of the Bordeaux suburbs on a tongue of gravel that pokes south of where the Haut-Medoc proper begins. A Third Growth that's been run since 2004 by Caroline Frey (also of Paul Jaboulet Aine in the Rhone), now farmed biodynamically (Biodyvin-certified in 2021, Demeter from 2022). The 2014 is a Cabernet-driven blend that reflects the year's classical, structured profile — graphite and blackberry on the nose, fine-grained tannins, a chalky lift on the back palate. Well into its drinking window but still has a long road ahead.
