Pavie Decesse sits on the limestone plateau directly above its more famous sibling Château Pavie, and shares the same ownership—Gérard and Chantal Perse, who acquired it in 1997. This is a tiny estate (just 23 acres) producing a Merlot-dominant Saint-Émilion (90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc) of remarkable density and depth. The 2001 vintage is now well into mature territory at 24 years old, with the inky concentration of the Perse style softened by time into something layered and savory. Drink now through 2030.
