The Marconnets ridge straddles Beaune and Savigny-les-Beaune, and Chanson is one of the few producers with significant holdings on both sides. This bottling comes from the Savigny side - Hauts Marconnets, perched high on the south-facing slope on marl and limestone, which Chanson chose to plant to Chardonnay rather than Pinot. The result is a white Burgundy of unusual cut and minerality for the appellation: peach and apricot fruit, a saline mineral spine, and the kind of focused, precise finish that makes you reach for another sip. A great-value 1er Cru white from a perennially underrated address.
