Domaine de Montille Bourgogne Blanc Clos du Chateau 2022
Domaine de Montille is one of the Cote de Beaune's most revered producers, and Etienne de Montille's calling card is just how good even the entry-level Bourgognes are. The Clos du Chateau is his pet project, a single walled vineyard of around five hectares ringing the Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet at the heart of the village. Technically the parcel falls just outside the Puligny-Montrachet AOC boundary, so it carries the humble Bourgogne label, but it sure tastes Puligny-esque to us. Because the clos has no neighbors, Etienne uses it for his biodynamic trials, and the wine reflects that level of care: minerality, lucidity, and substantial concentration. Aged in demi-muids before a final stretch in stainless to preserve nerve. Drink now through the early 2030s.
