Etienne de Montille has shifted the house style toward purity and lift over his late father Hubert's famously austere extraction, and nowhere is that easier to taste than here. The Bourgogne Rouge blends fruit from a one-hectare plot in Volnay called Les Longbois with older-vine Pinot from the Clos du Chateau in Puligny. Both sites are biodynamically farmed and treated with the same attention as the premier crus upstairs. The 2023 was vinified with about a third whole cluster, giving fragrance and lift on top of fine-grained tannins and brisk red fruit. Pure village-level pleasure at the regional tier.
