Grands Ruchottes sits high on the Chassagne hillside, where the topsoil thins to just 25-40cm over solid limestone bedrock — the locals call it 'roche mare,' the mother rock. The result is one of the most chiseled, mineral-driven Premiers Crus in the village, often spoken of in the same breath as a Grand Cru. Bernard Moreau's parcel was planted in 1939, and the wine carries that old-vine depth: powerful, tightly wound, profoundly stony, with the structure to age for a decade or more. The 2020 vintage adds ripe citrus flesh to the wine's signature tension. This is one of the great expressions of Chassagne, full stop.
