Alma Fria San Luis Obispo Coast Stolo Vineyard Syrah 2023
A true cold-climate Syrah from the Stolo Vineyard, planted in 2008 a stone's throw from the Pacific in Cambria on the San Luis Obispo Coast. The site is farmed regeneratively and biodynamically by Raj Parr (of Phelan Farms next door); mornings are ocean-fogged two days out of three and the thermometer rarely tops 80F. Alma Fria's Carroll Kemp uses 20% whole cluster and 100% neutral oak. The wine comes in at 12% alcohol - bright, light-bodied, peppery, with elderberry and black raspberry fruit and a strong olive-tapenade savor. Closer to Cornas than to Paso Robles.
